The progression path of any faction's ships can be seen in the in-game ship tree. Level 3 missions can be completed in a cruiser or battlecruiser depending on skills and fit, and level 4 typically requires a well-prepared battleship. Generally, progression from level 1 to level 4 missions will involve stepping from a Tech 1 (T1) frigate to a T1 destroyer for level 2 missions. Picking and fitting your ship for purpose is the most important way to ensure your success in an upcoming Security mission. Acceleration Control - Increases the speed boost of Afterburners and Microwarpdrives.Tactical Shield Manipulation - Prevents damage from bleeding through shields into armor.Shield Compensation - Decreases capacitor need for Shield Boosters.Shield Resist Compensation Skills - Increases the resist bonus provided by certain modules.Missile Bombardment - Increases missile range by giving them a longer flight time.Missile Projection - Increases missile range by making them faster.Guided Missile Precision - Improves missile ability to hit small targets.
Target Navigation Prediction - Improves missile ability to hit fast targets.Warhead Upgrades - Increases missile damage.Rapid Launch - Increases rate of fire by a larger amount.Missile Launcher Operation - Increases missile launcher rate of fire.Rockets - Increases damage with short-range Rockets.Light Missiles - Increases damage with long-range Light Missiles.Caldari Frigate - Improves the ship bonuses of Caldari frigates.A good tactic is to start out with lots of defensive modules and then to reduce them in exchange for damage or speed if you feel that you can. Knowing just how much damage you need to tank is going to come from experience. By knowing this in advance, it's possible to prepare with specific hardeners against their damage types. This is seen in the Show Info panel when right clicking on a hostile NPC. Regardless of your tank choice, an important part of running these missions is to recognize which damage type the hostiles will deal. By using Core Defense Field Purgers and a mix of Shield Power Relays, Flux Coils, Extenders, or Rechargers, some pilots will aim to have their shield regenerate on its own while it takes damage. The exception to this rule is the occasional use of passive shield regeneration. These are used instead of buffer modules - Shield Extenders or Armor Plates - which will eventually run down to zero, likely with an explosion soon to follow. Since Security missions will involve staying in the mission site for an extended period of time, you will want to use active modules such as Shield Boosters or Armor Repairers to continually repair damage. You can view all of the options for any faction from the Ship Tree. The first step in this process will be in selecting your ship. This means fitting enough defensive (tank) modules to your ship to survive while also ensuring that you have the weapons to destroy other ships, the speed to maneuver, and enough capacitor to run all of your modules. If you want to survive Security missions in EVE then you need to prepare.
